Bowfin, long nose gar just wondering if anybody has hooked any in the river, i have heard stories that people have caught them in the susky, anybody know if they are indeed in the river?

No doubt the gar are in the lower reaches below the dams. I've never heard of any of either being caught in the North Branch where I fish.

I would love to catch a gar, i think it would make for a great river experience for just about anyone, i did get lucky and caught a bowfin in a local pay lake close to my house 2 years ago it put up one hell of a good fight i can only imagine what it would be like to hook one in the river...

They are in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain. The ones that we have in this part of the US aren't the monsters that they have in Louisiana and Texas. Those are Alligator Gar and they can get to weigh a few hundred pounds.

Yeah my girlfriends uncle lives in texas and he catches gator gar all the time one of these days i would love to go down for a visit and try my luck with them, as for long nose gar i have only ever seen 1 caught and i thought that thing was huge the fish was 49 inch and if i remember right it was like 23 or 24 pounds, he caught it while catfishing down at zetts fish farm down in inwood WVa...
