Title: Smallies Were on Fire
Post by: FM on November 18, 2017, 07:27:26 AM
I took off most of the day on Thursday to get in another trip with my boat before the ice gets here. I figure that I may have 3 or 4 more shots at it before the auger comes out of the shed. It was in the mid forties when I hit the water about 10 am. As soon as I kicked the motor over a couple guys in a tiller with a small jet started to make fa bee line for the location I would have targeted. It's about two miles up the river from the launch and I easily caught them but had to slow way down to get over a bad set of rocks so they ended up pulling into my planned destination just ahead of me. I decidied to come back there later and went on by to a shore line that has been producing some fish for me lately. Glad I did. As I drifted along the shore I was picking up smallmouth with out troubles so i decided to try a X-rap with a, reel, reel, jerk, and they liked it. I came to a spot and picked a few better ones so I dropped the anchor and stayed for a few hours. It was a Smallie Hotel. I must have pulled 4 dozen out of the section. Mid session a squall of sleet came thru and almost blew me off the river, but I hunkered down in the bottom of the boat and resumed a great day after it passed.

Great fishing. The very fine pictures define the situation very well.

That's why I wade this time of year...I'm a bit of a pansy...I like the option of walking back to the car with a hot coffee and Larabar when Mariah blows.  ;)  :)

Suspended jerkbaits were the ticket earlier this week in the upper mainstem. I love a jerkbait bite.

Nice fish and wow the numbers.  The water level at City Island looks perfect and Harry and me were going to go this Sunday since the LVTL doesn't shoot this week but not in 20 MPH wind.  He has off black Friday so if the weather isn't too bad we may try it then.
