1st Smallie of 2018
« on: February 20, 2018, 05:03:04 PM »
The Susquehanna River level has come up to a great level for wading/walking the shoreline.
Color is stained but fishable. Not too much debris.  Air temp was very comfortably in the 60's today.

The problem is water temperature. Up and down....Up and down. Today at Danville the temp showed between 34-35F this AM.

Carp galore. All caught in the tail. But among them was one hungry smallmouth with icicles on his chin...wearing long johns.

This 2.5 pounder hit my Cabin Creek tube just as I raised it off the bottom on a slow drift.

I could only find one taker today but it's a start. If the water temp gets up closer to 40F and the levels stay up I might get some decent mid-winter smallmouthing.  ;) :D

Nice going Bill.  I don't think I'm ready to make the 75 mile tow to Harrisburg and go for a cold boat ride. :)
The older I get, the better I used to be.

Wasn't gonna post today until this pack of "yelping poodles" came my way while fishing today.

That's what I call snow geese...sounds like a pack of poodles to me. They circled and landed right in front of me today.

Beautiful they are.

The two smallies and the 2 walleye were a bonus.

Temps at Danville have shot up toward the 38F mark. Another inch of rain coming over the next 2 days and warmer temps could mean fireworks next week.  ;)  ;D

Thanks for posting the snows. I have never been that close to them. When I do see them it is in the fall and they are way way up on the sky. I can always tell them from the Canadian variety by the poor excuse for a honk that they exhibit. I got out today too, saw a high flying flock of Canadas headed north. I will post up some pics later.

I heard last week on the radio, this is the 2nd year in a row. That the snow geese were showing up, in larger than normal numbers at Middle Creek in Lebanon co. 1eye the Susquehanna in Harrisburg is at the level Dry describes as, you would have to be nuckin futs to boat. Bill nice fish as always.

I spotted a big (few hundred) snow geese way overhead journeying north yesterday morning. and My wife reported hearing a huge flock of geese on Saturday. She's not attuned to the characteristic sounds that differentiate them but from the way she described the size of the flock I suspect more snows. I'd love to see them up close.

I travel from Harrisburg to eastern Lancaster county daily for work. Monday I saw some snow geese heading north. But this week I have definitely witnessed more Canadian geese flying north. Huge v's of close to 100 or more I suspect. Try not to count while driving on the highway.
