Title: Shutting it Down
Post by: FM on September 25, 2018, 04:14:41 PM
I am reluctantly shutting down my catfishing from the boat for the season. I had a good time at it this year, the best. I got a big boost in my enthusiasm back in August when I got the 3 flatheads in one night. I was pumped to get out and go for a few more or a bigger one. The river and the weather just won't cooperate with me and by time it gets back to decent fishable levels and clarity I will be wanting to chase smallies and walleyes for it's adieu to the cats and hello sport fish. FYI the night I got the three flatties was also the lowest point that the river has been all year. That only lasted a few days. That low wasn't even a real summertime low level either. I'm expecting that this confounding weather will continue so I have decided to spend some of the days waiting for better river conditions fishing on Harvey's Lake for perch and smallies. It's close and there are some hefty smallies in there. I know nothing about fishing lakes open water so it ought to be fun.

Some of the best flathead fishing is coming. October has been our go to time of the year. They do the same thing as smallies - stack in deep winterholes.

I'll keep it in mind.  If the river settles down I know where to look.
