Title: Maybe!!
Post by: DRY on December 03, 2018, 03:51:14 PM
Maybe there is hope!!

After 20 minutes of ice...20 minutes of heat...2 Excedrin...some Ben-Gay...and 15 minutes of back exercises... ;)  ;D

Me and my aggravating sciatic nerve decided to go fishing. It has been a while since I've seen a smallmouth but I finally refreshed my ageing memory.  :)

Fished a little over 2 hours with only four hits...all came on the small Lockett's minnow. One fish was a very decent walleye.

The other 3 were typical winter smallmouth...

And a just over 4 pounder...

Maybe there is hope for the rest of the year but is there any hope for my sciatica!!  :(  >:(

Glad you got on some fish, those are good looking smallies! Pray you'll get relief with that sciatica. Each yr seems to bring a few more aches and pain for me as well

The Susquehanna has risen again almost 2 feet and water temp dropped 2 degrees...the bite that I found over the last 2 days has evaporated...or should I say drowned and frozen.  ::) :)

We all need stability...that's what my fish need...stable conditions for a few weeks...just as long as we don't get icebergs.

Even a little rise in water temperature earlier this week might have made a difference. Gotta watch everything in winter. Take advantage of every opportunity.

Have you been back out?  Just wondering if the temperature dropping back down had an impact.

Between the weather, the river level and my schedule I havenít been out since before thanksgiving.  Hoping that changes next week.

Something had an effect.  :(  Wed and Thurs (after a 3 degree water temp drop and a foot rise in water levels) I had only one hit...one smallmouth and no snagged carp.

Fortunately, being retired, I can afford to just go out and fish...even if I'm not catching. I find the cold weather numbs my deteriorating back and joints...and the peace and quiet is refreshing  ;)  ;D

Have you been back out? ...

Thursday was a bust. Couldn't find carp or smallies.

Today (over about 2 hrs.) I checked four spots and in one of them I found carp...along with 3 smallmouth.

This 3+ pounder deserved a picture.

My wife has me reserved for the weekend but I'm anxious to get out early in the week...no rain forecast and I wanna get some more time in before the ice comes.

Nice going Bill.  I won't be in anyone's favorite spot until spring and I can fish from my boat. :)

Speaking of ice, my recollection is that we wonít see that until daytime highs are below freezing for a week or so. Correct?

Water temps at Danville (just north of me) are around 36-37F.

For the next few days daytime highs are forecast to be in the mid to upper 30's.

And night time temps in the mid to upper 20's with a couple nights in the teens.

You are right...That shouldn't produce ice...but I was hoping for another water temp rise to near 40F...Accuweather shows a long range forecast for daytime temps in the mid-40's late next week...there is still hope.

I'll have to write Santa a letter.  ;)  ;D

I have my fingers crossed too.  Unfortunately that warmer weather is supposed to bring rain with it.  >:(

I had one of the local TV stations on today and the weather forecast started. They had a shot of the river and it looked like there was ice on the eastern side.  This looked like the area just above Harrisburg.

I havenít been to the river lately; is anyone seeing ice?

Drove up from southern Maryland today. Came up along 11&15 through Liverpool and didn't notice any ice. Gonna give it a try tomorrow.

An ice and snow storm started Saturday afternoon in southern Maryland.

This AM I spent quite a while scraping 3 inches of ice and snow off my car. Once we got to Baltimore there was no snow. Funny thing...travel south and get ice and snow.
