Title: The menu has changed
Post by: DRY on April 03, 2019, 04:51:41 PM
Several of the smallmouth I caught this week have clearly been chowing down (big guts) and have been regurgitating baitfish. Don't see that much in winter. But the water is warming and they are more actively looking for food.

So...I started today with an imitation stone cattie...could have used a swimbait...but every smallmouth worth his weight has a liking for stone catties. Rigged it on a 3/16 oz. stand-up football jighead...that gives the impression the baitfish is feeding on the bottom.

Tough wind conditions...AGAIN...but water was 49F and an excellent color.

Second fish of the day was this 3.5 pounder...

I kept the stone cattie on for 3 hours and picked up 16 smallmouth.

I am going to have to take my instant reading smoking thermometer next time. My newest sounder is 3 degrees off from my digital thermometer in my 33 year old bass boat and other sounder. You would think the newer one is most accurate!

Harry retires on Tuesday.  The gauge at Harrisburg looks good at 5.5.  Guess I have to take the shoe off of the jet and make sure the mounting bolts are still tight  The batteries are all charged.  I think it's almost time to give it a whirl.

Hi all first post on this forum been a member for a few months. How early do the smallmouth gather at the faberdam in the spring? I was thinking of fishing there this weekend on the shamokin dam side. I mostly Wade fish the north branch around Danville/Bloomsburg and I noticed some bass this week heading up fishing creek. Thanks again
