They're Gettin' Ready!!
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:44:09 PM »
The Susquehanna is a mess...but "tribomania" is starting. This high water is giving them access to the tribs...the water is warmer there...and they're thinking about spawning.
With swollen bellies...

and reddened anal pores...

Picked up eleven in 2 hours on the Baby Predator Craw

and the stonecat ...

Most were 2 pounds and over with this fish tipping the scales at 3 3/4 pounds

Even managed a walleye...

Lotsa jumpers today...

I saw the swollen bellies on 2 last Saturday evening also. Glad to hear the tribs are producing, because the river in Harrisburg looks awful. High, fast and really stained.

Shermans.....the Swattie...the Conodoguinet...

they ought to all produce some nice bass in their estuaries and for several miles upstream.

I get nice smallies in the "little" swattie here in Berks while trout fishing.... doubt they swim all the way from the river....although they do travel .... but it is a nice fight.  Been on the Shermans a few times but later in the summer still got into the smallies even a few nice ones.

Took a drive with the kids last night, along the conodoguinet. As the crow flies, it was probably 2.5 miles upstream before I found fishable water for tonight.

I am waiting for the river to go down, seems to me that will take weeks, really muddy and high, and I will get all your over flow. jf7

Didn't make it out last evening, spouse was not feeling well. So I grabbed the kids, and drove up just for a look. On the way in I heard an interesting distinct bird call. Rounded the bend, and in one of the trees. Sat a beautiful Bald Eagle, he let us get to about 50 yards. But JF, in Harrisburg, the river is dropping almost 1' a day. Down close to 3' since Friday, water is not as stained as Friday also. Planning on heading up, if able, tonight.
