Got Out
« on: August 25, 2018, 06:19:05 PM »
Got out Thursday evening from the Shickshinny launch, maybe a hundred yards done the river but just enough to get onthe edge of the backwash and the current. Considering the moon on the water the action was decent. I got the usual 20 somethings and one 30.5 inch channel cat. I have a new digital scale thanks to Mike Brown's recommendation. Easy to use and very accurate up to 50 lbs. So, little by little I'm learning the weights that correlate to the various size cats I catch. The 30.5 is the largest I've weighed on this scale so far, 16 pounds. Heavier than I would have guessed.

Yeah, that scale is nice. I'm trying to get the kayak out tomorrow evening and do some catfishing. That's a nice weight for a 30" cat! Nice fish! I've only got cut bait, unless I try to catch some gills tomorrow. We're you fishing with cut bait or live bait?

Got about 10 on Sunday night. Mostly decent ones in the 20's but two that at 30 inches and 17 lbs and 30.5 inches at a sliver below 19. I'm zeroing in on this new scale. I use the fish grippers to hold the fish and weigh the fish and grippers together. I had been deducting half a pound for the grippers. Last night I weighed them and they are 5.3 ozs, less than I was counting on. Homing in on my flathead for the year.  8)

I fish live 99% of the time in the boat. If one gets chomped on a crushed I will cut it in half and fish the two pieces. last night to two biggies came one of a chunk of gill the other on a live one.

Woke up this early this morn and had the "fishin fever" and decided to go for cats since they usually eat as much as I do. Put in at Berwick launch, found a nice deep hole and went through my whole tub of chicken livers in 1 1/2hrs. Most fun I've had for $1.59 in a long time!

Figured I might as well take another cat fishing trip this morn before the rain and high water arrive. Caught some good ones, the heaviest over 10 lbs., didn't get any pics because I was so excited about fishing I forgot my phone in the truck. I was down to the bottom of the chicken liver tub when I hooked into something that took off across the river and never slowed down, broke my knot at the barrel swivel. Good thing, never was good at water skiing!

Is there striper up there?  They pull harder than any fish I've caught.

No stripers up here in the north branch Brewguy, probably big cat, musky or maybe Russian submarine!
