Frances Slocum Bullies

Hit Slocum for a couple hours to enjoy one of life's greatest pleasures, sitting back and catchin' bulhead. Picked up 7 while I was there some decent and a couple small. Catch of the night was a yellow bullhead. Never saw one in there before. It is the slate grey one with the white whiskers, as my dad called them. The rest were all the typical brown bullhead that we usually catch there. I never saw a yellow anywhere but the river and they definitly earned the name for the river look. I have caught some that looked positively toxic they were so yellow. I'll have to try and scrape up and old pic of one.

I have to correct myself, I think. speaking with some other experts on odd ball fish I have been told that the slate colored bullhead I labeled as a yellow bullhead is in fact a white catfish, cousin of the channel catfish. The brown bullhead is still a brown bullhead. lol

Good info FM, had no idea there were white catfish in Slocum! I fished Slocum today for some bullhead action but got skunked. Three other anglers that were also targeting them said not much action either. The water level was up to the shoreline benches and water clarity was that of chocolate milk. I'll give it another shot this weekend.

Nice! I assumed the gray cattie was a small channel in the pic. Now that you pointed it out, you can see that it is shaped differently than a small channel. Good stuff!
