??Full Moon??
« on: March 10, 2020, 05:00:30 PM »
Been out the last 2 days...
River dropping slowly...south wind upriver...
Water temp 40-41F
Picking up a few 2-2.5 pounders pretty far out but...........

Should be better...

I question the effects of the full moon. I have never had much luck during this period. This March 2020 full moon is called a Supermoon...

Other experiences??????

The last couple days I haven't even had a hit. Don't know if it's the water dropping, or the moon.
Monday was 73 degrees...Sure was a lot of guys who didn't go to work that day  ;D
Must have been dozen boats at the launch that day. So they could have been hitting my spots pretty hard.
Fish on...

Well...the Superfullmoon effect on the fish must be wearing off  ;D
This morning was calm and overcast
Water low 40's and air low 50's
Picked up seven smallmouth on the "Willie Wannabe"...every one between 2-3 lbs.

This was a 2.75 lb fish...

And this was the 3 pounder...

Remember - avoid crowds of people...go fishing!!  ;)  :)

Bill I don't think it has a bad effect in fresh water I went Monday the 9th and did decent but I had to work hard lots of boats out this day! Anyway I do think it has a bigger effect on salt water fishing, with flounder the drift much faster and with stripers I think I do a tad better on full moons and super moons. I keep a log of my fishing days and by far caught more and bigger strippers and my biggest at 48 lbs on those moons. So that's my thoughts.

Moon phase changing...Water warming up...
Smallmouth waking up...getting more aggressive

Ten smallies today...2 biggies spit the hook due to aerial acrobatics and my stupidity...

But this 3 pounder came to hand...

Nice, Bill!

You're catching quite a few nice smallies like in past years.

Haven't seen many with black spots or lesions in your pics like other years, especially early in the season.

Are things better, or still the same?!

I haven't been out enough to judge for myself.

Good luck.

I was just telling my wife yesterday that out of 8 smallmouth that I landed yesterday...2 had black spots...that's 25%...
I would say that 20-25% is about what I have been seeing this winter. Maybe not as severe looking but black spots nonetheless...indicating we still have a problem.
Caught a carp last week that was just full of mucous looking ulcers and tumors all over the body.
I haven't seen any PFBC smallmouth data...but I haven't met or talked with anyone who really believes the smallmouth population is improving. While I enjoy what I catch and I love to take pictures and talk about it...it is nothing like it used to be...and I doubt it will ever be.
Have not caught a walleye all winter...unusual...the winter walleye fishermen that used to be in this section of the Susquehanna are non-existant.

I don't think you have to hurry...
Friday and Saturday were bummers after that cold front moved in...
There's a bitter NNE wind today and temps below freezing for tonight...
But...coronavirus or not...they will soon eat up a storm... ;) :)

23 degrees here this morning. Did get to go over boats yesterday. Small boat had a grounding problem with lights.
Bigger one had a bad valve stem on a trailer tire. I need to get that fixed today.
Hear that the bass are starting to hit jerk baits...Not sure when I might get out this week, all depends on the rain I guess.
Fish on...

Fished this AM for a little over 2 hours...Air 49F but the water temp has been unstable and the fish don't like that..

For the past 2 days we've had a nasty, cold upriver wind...not as bad today but I had to fish the Willie Wannabee with the rod tip down close to the water to stay out of the wind.

Most fish today were 1-2 pounders with this being the best just over 2...

These 2 fish have black spots, although subtle and could be ignored or missed by many, the disease is present still...

If you stopped putting those infected fish back into the river they wouldn't pass that decease onto the other fishes.

It doesn’t matter.  The world is going to end in nine years.
