buzz bait action muddy creek
« on: June 27, 2020, 08:30:36 AM »
Been working on the bass boat and swimming with the grandchildren. Hope I did not miss all the buzz bait action. Last year my best day was June 11. Got a couple on buzzbait at sundown last night.

best fish last night was 1.94lb

June 27. Launched at Peach Bottom and went up to Muddy Creek in bassboat (handles the flow much better than jonboat). Started at 4PM as that starts highest flow for day. 10 fish all about 2lbs. Was hoping to do better with the flow. Oh well! It is amazing how much water is in that pool when the river is getting low.

Some nice fish on some buzz bait action 👍
Lately all I have been catching is 12 bass under 12". Bigger fish are on vacation.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. Went out again last night. High flow start was 5PM did not get started until 0545. Only had 3 fish until sundown then I picked up about 5 on Ned rig. Have not found any bunched up.  :(

I normally use buzzbaits spring thru fall generally in low light conditions but have also been known to tie one on midday...  ;)   Sadly I can't find my favorite buzzbait anymore.... the "maker" hasn't had my colors since last fall... e-mails/FB messages go unanswered ?  I had found some at an online dealer but had issue's contacting them as well and of course they are now sold out !  I bought a War Eagle but not real happy with it.

I still use Lunker Lure. Though I have tried others I always go back to it. I also tie direct to lure, skirts from my 30+ year old living rubber.

Enjoyed the pic...getting better at it...nice to see you without winter clothing

Never fished buzzbaits for smallmouth but I used to canoe a small lake near me that was loaded with largemouth...

They loved Winco's buzzbaits...now sold by Fitt

Check them out...https://fittlures.com/buzzbaits-spinnerbaits/

Now we are sweating  :) Fortunately there are a few shady spots for me down here.
Sometimes they will not touch it. But when they do it is amazing!!

I "was" partial to these...  https://www.megastrike.com/cavitron ...  flat underhead for slow speed, bent hook shaft seemed to get better hook sets, holes in blade for extra bubbles....

That counter rotating one of Al's design may be promising.... no weights listed though. Guess I'll have to ask them ...Hope they answer LOL

I met a fisherman at Raystown a few years ago. I told him I did not use buzzbaits for SM. He said, "you fish the Susuehanna and don't use buzzbaits for SM?"
I had 18 on buzzbait 6/11/2019.

I don't think I have tried a buzz bait in four or five years.  I used to throw them often but never caught one fish so I gave up.

What would be the best conditions for them?

I generally use them early or late in the day(before the sun is up or after it is down). However I'm not above tying one on after striking out on "standard" daytime lures. I think bass hit them out of aggravation a lot more than "hunger"

Years back in the "dark ages" the Heddon Tiny Torpedo was the gold standard topwater on the river. Not quite a buzz bait but close... anyone still toss them ?

I still use tiny torpedos, without a doubt my favorite SM topwater lure. Though I have had people say they hate my red/white one - it is my favorite! On the buzzbait: if they take it a few times early or late I will continue with it. If they do not touch it I will be done with it. Like I posted: Sometimes they just will not touch it. But when they do it is amazing.

Some good reading on the buzzbaits. Going to have to pick a couple up.
Fished tiny torpedo last time out. Fish was mostly bumping it around but no solid strikes.

We're running out of water up here. Getting real boney.

The water levels are always good down here due to the dams. I new it was a heck of a chance, went out last night. I was betting on it blowing through - it did not! Got blown off the water. Glad I went with the bass boat and not the jon!

Above our dam we have a decent runnable stretch of water. Below the dam is getting questionable. When them big jets ground they don't push off the rocks that easy  :D     "Williamsport to Muncy"

I have got blowed off the water 2-3 times this year, with a few other times the wind making it hard loading.
