Catfishin' Time

I love springtime catfishin'. as zziipp mentioned it is probably the very best time to get a monster and you can really catch a mess of them while they are still all bunched up in their wintering holes. I tried a spot where I  figured I could at least get to the water w/o having to use crampons and climb down the ice wall. I didn't have it great, (about a 2 story climb to land each fish, down and back up) but I found a path to the water and was able to land six channel cats in a couple hours. I'm guessing that the two biggest were about 28 inches. They were all skinny from the long harsh winter and will be putting on some pounds over the next couple months to get ready for their spawn. I got them all on cut chub and suckers casting out as far as possible to the current break. Good Luck if you go out! I will be doing as much of it as I can fit in for the next two months at least.

Good luck with the site.  I use to fish the river years ago and am looking forward to starting again.
I'm sure this is going to be a source of info

I wish! I was able to tuck it into my bucket and get it to the shore w/o spilling a drop for once!

looks good! Can't wait to get up there and tie into some of them bad boys. But... with the ice season lasting as long as it is, I might just have to.  ;)

I love the new site, FM. It's dedicated to my favorite body of water. I can't wait to get out and chase those catties. Then target other species as the season goes on. It's been a long winter for open water guys like myself.

I only know of 2 cats caught in the river in Susqehanna County. One was a 24lber and one was a 12lber. Both were caught after the floods, we always thought they must have been washed in from a pond or lake. Does anyone know of any more caught between the state line in Windsor and the line in Conklin?
