May is busting out all over!!
« on: May 03, 2021, 01:45:00 PM »
Haven't fished for a while because of various reasons with wind being one of the worst.
Northern tier rain pushed the Susquehanna to 14 feet in my area so I went wading today. Great color to the water. Mid 50's water temps...
Started out slow but when I slowed the presentation down and avoided the inside current...I found them along the shoreline. Picked up nine smallmouth on the Willie Wannabee and the Locket minnow. Biggest one was 2.5 pounds and the bigger fish had not spawned yet.

Moved over to the trib that I fish. There the water had not risen at all because all the rain was up north. The water was approaching summer low levels. Here I picked up another five smallmouth all on the river darter...nose hooked and fished on a slow drift.

Interestingly enough these bass had not spawned yet either. Those windy cold fronts we had last week lowered the water temps to around 50F or below and it looks to me like these fish held off on spawning.

Spring is busting out all over!! Beautiful time of the year.  ;D

Well done.  The water temperature down here never got that low, and it is supposed to be over 60 today.  I am going out tomorrow and I suspect that they have at least started to spawn.  Water level is up so I hope that didnít cause a problem.

Some beautiful fish Dry! Thanks for sharing!
Wind has been making it tough to fish up here. Sunday 51mph wind gust. The river is up 3-4' with some color.
Last water temp check was 50 degrees.

Going to hit a local lake up here today. Rose Valley Lake

Good Luck Zelmo!

Good Luck Zelmo!

Water temp was 62 - 63 but high and muddy.  Only managed one dink so I don't know where we stand in the spawn.

It sure was chilly this morning with the wind and the cold.
I caught one this morning hitting one of my bank spots. It was a pretty sold fish.

My son and I spent this last week, mid day Monday thru Thursday May 3-6 on the river from Que down to Hoover Island. Caught 145 smallmouth and 1 musky over those 3 1/2 days. All were caught on tubes and spinnerbaits. Great trip with my son!

Heavy Duty, That's a lot of fish! Would make for a fun trip.

Looks like not much time on the river this week. Hope not to many bass have spawn yet.

Nice smallies! Amen to the rain, getting skinny here in VA also. Just a few slight chances this week, nothing to raise the river much. Stay on them!

Looks like Friday we could get some decent precipitation. But it's going to get 10 degrees colder than average then.
Still doing pretty decent. I fish a lot with my 2 sons.

Thanks Phil! How has Raystown been doing?

Great. Cannot resist the larger spring fish. Back from Raystown. Usually do not go after Memorial Day. Campgrounds are full!! Looking forward to the river!
