2021 Spring Shakedown
« on: March 12, 2021, 08:55:44 AM »
Uncovered my boat and took it over to the river launch for an early season shakedown, I tossed in two rods in case I got lucky and everything worked. The motor started right up and idled nicely so I went looking for some eyes or smallmouths that were in the mood to play. I didn't get any eyes but found a decent backwash that had collected some nice fat smallies. I caught 8, 14 to 16 inch fish in a couple hours. The law of low expectations coming thru again.

What part of the Susky are you fishing?
That's a good start to the season! No glitches and you caught fish!
The only fisherman you should try to be better than.
Is the fisherman you was yesterday.

A buddy of mine and his son went out yesterday to Ft Hunter. Using shiners mostly they caught about 35 fish. He told me 4 on hair jig. I thought it was interesting with a cold front moving in they did well!

Fish seem to be biting down your way!

Probably going to be a little while till I get back out.

Must have been some rain up north. looks like Sunbury came up 5' in one day and Juniata only came up just shy 1'

The Susquehanna crested at 17 feet today at Selinsgrove...that is 8 feet above where it was when I fished earlier this week.

It's all due to northern tier snow melt.

I live in the Wilkes Barre area and mostly fish within 20 miles up and down stream of there. When I was younger and a lot sprier I would venture north towards Wyalusing.

I fish mostly in the Berwick, Bloomsburg area but do venture from Danville to West Nanticoke. My boat docks in my garage and is always ready to go when  the river is clear of ice. Mostly fish for SM in summer and fall, walleyes in the winter and cats in between all catch and release. At 70+ I still get a thrill catching fish or sitting in a tree stand. Just to see an eagle soaring or critters running along the bank makes my day, got to thank the Lord for every chance I get to do it. Good luck, tight lines!
